The Finite Element Analysis in Practice Course Curriculum Kit

ALGOR's University Program includes a course curriculum kit designed to assist in incorporating FEA into the classroom.

The Introduction Example features a motor bracket assembly comprised of brick elements. The objective is to perform an analysis on the bracket to consider an applied pressure load.

The Gear Design Supplement features gear examples for static stress analysis with linear material models and Mechanical Event Simulation with linear material models.

The Finite Element Analysis in Practice Course Curriculum Kit consists of the following:

  • the Finite Element Analysis in Practice Instructor Manual, which provides a practical, introductory look at FEA and detailed steps for all of the examples; and
  • the Finite Element Analysis in Practice Instructor Kit, which includes the following CD-ROMs:
    • the Instructor Manual and Handouts CD-ROM, which contains electronic versions of slides and solution handouts for classroom lectures;
    • the Instructor Example Model Archives CD-ROM, which contains archives with models and results for all examples; and
    • addendums that focus on special topics such as gear design.

Key Features of the Course Curriculum Kit

  • Free with a University software license
  • Designed to assist in incorporating FEA into the classroom
  • Provides a practical, introductory look at FEA
  • Provides electronic versions of slides and solution handouts for classroom lectures on CD-ROM
  • Provides input files and archived model files for each example on CD-ROM
  • Guides students through the process of building truss, beam, 2-D, plate and brick element models, setting up and performing linear static stress analyses including contact and evaluating results
  • Includes supplementary information about different element types, linear and nonlinear material models, mesh convergence, thermal analyses and presentation options
  • Gear design supplement
  • Materials are continually maintained by ALGOR so that they reflect our software enhancements
  • Materials are consistent in style with the tutorials, accuracy verification examples and documentation included with the software

University Program Participants Say

“The course curriculum and supporting materials that ALGOR provides with its university software license are essential tools for bringing FEA into the classroom. The availability of this curriculum was an important factor in my choice to use ALGOR software to prepare my students for professional careers in engineering.”

“I am using ALGOR's course curriculum materials to expand the number of FEA examples included in our undergraduate and graduate Concurrent Engineering courses. The course curriculum is very well developed and the exercises are flexible enough to be used as-is or adapted for a specific class focus, such as Concurrent Engineering. Because the exercises emphasize practical skills, they fit well into our 'hands-on' teaching approach.”
     Todd Waggoner, Ph.D.
     Associate Professor
     Bowling Green State University

“I look forward to using ALGOR's course curriculum materials in my Fall 2004 FEA class. The presentational style of the materials is clear and the examples will be easy for my students to use. The ALGOR materials will reduce my class preparation time, which will enable me to devote more time to coaching students in class instead of preparing materials.”
