Transient Stress (Modal Superposition)
Linear transient stress (modal superposition) analysis, also known as time history analysis, uses mode shapes and natural frequencies calculated through a natural frequency (modal) analysis to solve for time-varying loads. Engineers can then assess the dynamic response of a structure subjected to these loads. Ground acceleration components can also be added in any or all three global directions to determine the dynamic response.

This type of analysis is used for structural vibration and load testing. For example, the effects of impulsive wind loading on towers or the cycling effects of air-purification equipment can be determined.
