February 11, 2000, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- Algor, Inc., a leading maker of
software for mechanical engineers, today announced a donation to Childrens Hospital
of Pittsburgh, one of the nations top ten childrens hospitals and pediatric
research facilities. Algor has been donating to Childrens Hospital for the past
seven years. This year the donation will support the Research Equipment Initiative, which
purchases state-of-the-art scientific equipment for the hospitals Rangos Research
Center, helping to sustain a century-long tradition of leadership in pediatric medical
research. Algor raised the funds for this donation by holding a Monte Carlo benefit party
for Algor employees.
"Algor is proud to help provide technology to pediatric researchers," said
Michael L. Bussler, president of Algor, Inc. "Through this donation, Algor and its
employees are demonstrating their support for developing technological resources within
the Pittsburgh community and their concern for children affected by pediatric
illnesses."
The funds for Algors donation to Childrens Hospital were raised on December
6, 1999 at a Monte Carlo benefit party for all Algor employees. In exchange for their
donations, party attendees received play money that could be used to play a variety of
casino games. Prizes were donated by Pittsburgh area organizations including the
Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and 38 others. Most prizes were awarded to those
that accumulated the most play money, while others were auctioned off in a silent auction.
Through these festivities, Algor was able to make one of the highest contributions in its
seven-year history of fundraising for Childrens Hospital.
"Algors gift will help to buy state-of-the-art research equipment, which is
an important building block to support researchers in their effort to find cures for
juvenile diabetes, muscular distrophy and childhood cancers, to name a few," said
Aileen Sanders, Coordinator of Foundation and Corporate Relations at Childrens
Hospital, "The ultimate beneficiaries of Algors gift will be the children whose
lives will be saved through the discoveries made possible with the most advanced research
equipment available. We are truly grateful for Algor's continued support of Children's
Hospital of Pittsburgh. We thank Algor for this very generous gift."
According to one of the researchers benefiting from the Research Equipment Initiative,
the Associate Professor of Neurology Vinodh Naraynan, M.D., "the DNA sequencing and
analysis instrument [provided by the Research Equipment Initiative] allows all the
researchers at Children's Hospital to get data for their studies. This equipment will
allow researchers to concentrate on their research and spend less time on the technical
problems that occurred with older DNA analysis equipment."
Algor has been a leader in the engineering software industry since introducing FEA for
PCs in 1984 and interfacing with CAD systems in 1985. The company provides innovative,
affordable and easy-to-use software products that have enabled 20,000 engineers in 60
countries to create safe, efficient, cost-effective designs. Algor also offers superior
educational support and customer service that includes the use of state-of-the-art
Internet audio/video technology for live "Web Courses" and free public
"Webcasts," which provide step-by-step Algor software instruction.
Algors product line features FEA-based Accupak/VE Mechanical Event Simulation
software. Accupak/VE reduces the need for physical prototyping and eliminates the need to
input dynamic loads by determining the motion, flexing and resulting stresses of a
mechanism at each instant of an event. Algors proprietary kinematic element
technology makes performing Mechanical Event Simulations using CAD solid parts and
assemblies practical for realistic, accurate results. Engineers can use Algors InCADPlus
and InCAD DesignPak products to seamlessly capture exact CAD geometry from popular CAD
systems within Algor. The company also offers linear stress, vibration, heat transfer,
electrostatic, fluid flow, composite materials and piping systems analysis tools.
Algors software interchanges data with products from ANSYS, Inc. (Nasdaq:ANSS),
Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADSK), CADKEY Corporation, MSC.Software Corporation (NYSE:MNS),
Parametric Technology Corporation (Nasdaq:PMTC), Structural Dynamics Research Corporation
(Nasdaq:SDRC), Unigraphics Solutions, Inc. (NYSE:UGS), SolidWorks Corporation, a Dassault
Systemes S.A. (Nasdaq:DASTY) company, and others.
